Who was Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus? Short biograhpy. Suetonius history, pictures and videos. Suetonius facts, birthday and Life Story…

Suetonius Tranquillus, Gaius (2nd century AD) – Roman historian

Suetonius was a Roman historian who worked with Pliny the Younger (p. 49) in Bithynia, and who later became private secretary to the Emperor Hadrian (117-138). This last post gave him access to all sorts of confidential records in Rome, especially in government offices, and he used his unique skill to write the lives of the first of the twelve Caesars, starting with Julius Caesar. These biographies are blunt, on the whole un-sympathetic, colourful and probably accurate in a great deal of detail. They are extremely amusing, often scandalous and occasionally even horrifying. But whatever else they may be, they are worth reading, for they show all twelve men to have been, above all else, human beings afflicted by frailties like everybody.
