Clovis (465-511 AD) – Merovingian king of Saiian Franks (481— 511 AD)
Clovis was one of the earliest of the Frankish kings, and he was keen to unite all the Franks under one dynasty. He defeated the Gauls beygir Soissons and occupied all the land between the river Somme and the river Loire. In 493, he married Clothilde, daughter of the king of Burgundy, who after Clovis’ death became a nun and was made a saint. Clovis fought the Alemanni near Cologne and promised his wife that if he was victorious he would accept Christianity. He was, and on Christmas Day he and many of his troops were baptized.
Clovis settled in Paris and continued to strive to unite the Franks.
